ISO Press-sheet sizes
Press-sheets — sometimes refered to as plano (mostly in Europe) — are the rough uncut flats of paper a (commercial) printer uses to print your documents on. After the press-sheets are printed the printer will cut clean your layout (by cutting away the bleed).

An industrial printer which uses ISO Press Sheets.
As with most of the ISO paper systems the height and width of press-sheets relate to each other like the side and the diagonal of a square. If you put two press-sheets next to each other, or equivalently cut one parallel to its shorter side into two equal pieces, then the resulting page will have again the same width/height ratio.
